Yes, we receive this question frequently, and we understand the concerns that travelers may have. Colombia is a beautiful country with friendly and hospitable people. As with any destination, it’s essential to take necessary precautions to ensure your safety.

Having lived in and traveled in and out of Colombia since 2019, I can attest that I have never encountered any safety issues. However, it’s always wise to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling at night or in unfamiliar areas. Avoid areas that give off a negative vibe and trust your instincts. If you’re unsure about a location, it’s best to ask the locals or staff members at Colombia Motorcycle Rental & Tour Co. for advice.

The recommendation for a motorcycle depends on your experience level and what you plan to do with it. For beginners or those with limited motorcycle riding experience. For experienced and advanced riders, the recommendation varies depending on the planned trip. For multi-day excursions and long trips outside of the city, the Honda XRE 190 or Hero XPULSE 200 Adventure or similar Adventure motorcycles are recommended. For day adventure trips, the Honda 150 XR is a popular model among local riders and can get you to most destinations safely. Ultimately, it is best to consult with us to determine which motorcycle would be best for your specific needs

Yes, all motorcycles come equipped with a mandatory medical insurance policy called SOAT (Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance) in Colombia. SOAT is a type of liability insurance that provides coverage for personal injury and death resulting from traffic accidents. It is required by law for all motor vehicles in Colombia, including motorcycles, and the cost is included in the rental or tour fee.

The coverage provided by SOAT is limited and does not cover property damage or theft. However, it does cover medical expenses, disability benefits, and death benefits for third parties involved in an accident caused by the insured motorcycle. The amount of coverage varies depending on the severity of the injury or death, up to a maximum of approximately 12 billion Colombian pesos (around 325,000 USD) for fatal accidents.

It’s important to note that SOAT only covers third-party liability, meaning it does not provide any protection for the rider or the motorcycle itself. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase additional insurance coverage for the motorcycle and personal accidents, such as comprehensive insurance or travel insurance, to ensure comprehensive protection in case of accidents or theft. If you have any questions about private insurance, please let our team know and we would be happy to connect you with a private provider.
